Meem Terms of Service

Last updated: July 14, 2026 · Effective: July 14, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and FI Halal Circle ("Meem," "we," "us"), based in Bangalore, India, and govern your use of the Meem mobile application and joinmeem.com (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Community Guidelines, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.

1. Eligibility

In short: You must be at least 16.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. By creating an account you represent that you meet this requirement and that you are legally capable of entering into this agreement under the laws that apply to you.

2. Your account

In short: Keep your login safe, be one real person, one account.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for all activity on your account.
  • One person, one account. Do not impersonate others, create fake or automated accounts, or use multiple accounts to manipulate polls, points, reactions, or research results.
  • Notify us at support@joinmeem.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. Community conduct

In short: Follow the Community Guidelines. Hate speech toward any religion is removed on sight and strikes your account immediately.

Your conduct on the Service is governed by our Community Guidelines. In particular, and without limitation, you agree not to:

  • Post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or violent;
  • Post hate speech directed at any religion, its followers, figures, or places of worship, including sectarian attacks between Muslim groups. This is subject to zero tolerance: such content is removed on sight and results in an immediate strike (Section 4);
  • Post spam, scams, or deliberately false or misleading information;
  • Present personal opinions as religious rulings (fatwas), or claim religious authority through the Service, Meem does not issue or endorse religious rulings;
  • Describe any product or service as "halal certified" by Meem, the Service never self-certifies halal status;
  • Manipulate polls, Meems points, rewards, or research results through fake accounts, automation, coordination, or exploitation of bugs;
  • Upload content you do not have the right to share, or that infringes anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights;
  • Interfere with the Service's operation, probe or bypass its security measures, or access it by any automated means without our written permission.

4. Moderation, strikes, and suspension

In short: Members can report content. We can remove content and issue strikes; three strikes puts an account into read-only mode. Religious hate speech is an immediate strike. You can appeal.

We moderate the Service to keep it safe. You agree that we may, at our reasonable discretion:

  • Remove or restrict the visibility of any content that violates these Terms or the Community Guidelines, including automatically hiding content that receives multiple pending member reports while it is reviewed;
  • Apply a strike to an account for a violation. Hate speech directed at any religion or its followers results in an immediate strike;
  • Place an account with three strikes into read-only suspension (you can view content but not post, comment, vote, or redeem);
  • Immediately suspend or terminate any account for severe violations, illegal content, threats to member safety, or attempts to defraud the Meems system, without applying the strike sequence first;
  • Preserve and disclose content where required by law.

If you believe a moderation action was a mistake, you may appeal by emailing support@joinmeem.com within 30 days of the action. We will review appeals in good faith, but our decision after appeal is final.

5. Your content and license to us

In short: You own what you post. You give us permission to host and show it in the app, and to feature it in Meem's own marketing. The permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

You retain ownership of the content you post ("Member Content"). By posting Member Content, you grant FI Halal Circle a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (solely for technical formatting and display), publish, publicly display, and distribute that Member Content:

  • within the Service, as needed to operate it; and
  • in Meem's own promotional materials (for example, app store screenshots or Meem's own social media), provided the content was posted publicly.

This license ends when you delete the Member Content or your account, except that (a) content already incorporated into promotional materials during the license term may continue to be used in those existing materials, (b) copies made by other members (such as screenshots) are beyond our control, and (c) we may retain content as required by law. You represent that you have all rights needed to grant this license.

Poll and survey responses are used to produce aggregated, anonymized research insights as described in the Privacy Policy; individual responses are never published or provided to any third party in identifiable form.

6. Meems points and rewards

In short: Meems are loyalty points with no cash value. They can't be bought, sold, or transferred. Points earned by cheating can be removed. Redemptions are final unless the failure is our fault.
  • No cash value. Meems are a promotional loyalty program, not money, property, a deposit, a security, or any other financial instrument. They have no cash value, cannot be purchased, sold, exchanged for cash, or transferred between members, and are redeemable only for the deals, gift cards, or charitable donations offered in the Meem Store, subject to availability.
  • Program changes. We may change earning rates, retire or substitute rewards, or modify the program at any time. Changes will not retroactively remove Meems you have already legitimately earned.
  • Revocation for fraud. Meems earned through fraud, cheating, fake or duplicate accounts, automation, or exploitation of bugs may be revoked in whole or in part, and the associated accounts suspended or terminated. Our ledger records are the authoritative record of your balance.
  • Redemptions. Redemptions are final once processed, except where fulfillment fails due to our error (for example, a gift card that never delivers), in which case we will re-issue the reward or restore the Meems spent.
  • Charity redemptions. When you convert Meems to a charitable donation, 100% of the stated donation amount goes to the charity. Donations are made by Meem to the charity; they are not tax-deductible contributions by you unless applicable law and the charity's documentation say otherwise.
  • Termination. Meems have no value outside the Service; if your account is terminated for a serious violation of these Terms, unredeemed Meems may be forfeited.

7. Sponsored content and research disclosure

In short: Anything a brand pays for is labeled "Sponsored." Brands only ever get anonymous, aggregated results, never your identity.
  • Polls, deals, or other content that a brand has paid for are always labeled "Sponsored" in the app.
  • Brands and research buyers receive only aggregated, anonymized insights, as described in the Privacy Policy. No member-level identity, contact information, or individual response is ever provided to them.
  • Sponsored content on Meem is subject to our content standards, including the permanent exclusion of categories incompatible with our community's values (such as alcohol, gambling, and interest-based lending products).
  • A "Sponsored" label means the sponsor paid for placement; it is not Meem's endorsement or a certification of the sponsor's products, including any halal status.

8. Prayer tools and religious content disclaimer

In short: Prayer times, Qibla, and Hijri dates are calculated estimates, verify locally for anything critical. Meem never issues religious rulings.

Prayer times, Qibla direction, and Hijri dates are computed estimates based on your device's location and your chosen calculation method. We treat their accuracy with the utmost seriousness and always display the calculation method used, but astronomical calculation methods differ and local practice varies. You should verify with a trusted local source (such as your local mosque) for anything time-sensitive. Meem does not issue religious rulings (fatwas), does not certify any product as halal, and is not a substitute for qualified religious guidance. Member posts are personal opinions, not religious rulings.

9. Intellectual property

In short: The app, brand, and design are ours; your content is yours.

The Service, including its software, design, brand marks, and all content we create, is owned by FI Halal Circle or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, or create derivative works of the Service except as permitted by law.

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, email support@joinmeem.com with a link to or description of the content, identification of the work you say is infringed, and your contact details. We review and act on valid notices, including removing infringing content and applying our moderation rules to repeat infringers.

10. Third-party services and rewards

In short: Gift cards and deals are fulfilled by other companies under their own terms.

Rewards in the Meem Store (such as gift cards and deals) are provided or fulfilled by third parties and subject to their own terms and conditions. We are not responsible for third-party products or services, though we will help resolve fulfillment failures as described in Section 6.

11. Termination

In short: You can delete your account any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that break the rules.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (Settings → Account → Delete Account, or see the Data Deletion page). We may suspend or terminate your account as described in Section 4, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service (with reasonable advance notice where practicable). Sections 5 (to the extent of surviving license uses), 6, 12, 13, and 14 survive termination.

12. Disclaimers

In short: The Service is provided "as is," we can't guarantee it will always be available or error-free.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing in these Terms limits rights consumers have under mandatory local law.

13. Limitation of liability

In short: Our financial liability to you is capped, and we're not liable for indirect losses, except where the law doesn't allow such limits.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law: (a) FI Halal Circle shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of or relating to the Service; and (b) our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (i) one hundred US dollars (US $100) and (ii) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose (which, for a free service, may be zero). Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such exclusion is not permitted.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

In short: Which country's law applies and how disputes are handled, to be finalized with a lawyer before publication.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to first contact us at support@joinmeem.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve the dispute informally. Subject to the remainder of this section, disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction for infringement of intellectual property rights or breaches of the Service's security. If you are a consumer, nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection laws, or of the right to bring proceedings in the consumer forums or courts, of the country or state where you live.

15. Indemnification

In short: If your content or your misuse of the Service gets us sued, you cover the resulting costs.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless FI Halal Circle from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from your Member Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, except to the extent caused by our own breach of these Terms.

16. Changes to these Terms

In short: If we change these Terms materially, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.

We may update these Terms. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance; if you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.

17. Miscellaneous

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice to you.
