In short: You can delete your Meem account and its
data at any time, instantly from inside the app, or by email if you no
longer have the app installed. Deletion is permanent.
This page explains how to request deletion of your Meem account and
the personal data associated with it, as required by Google Play's
account deletion policy. You do not need the app installed to make a
request.
Option 1: Delete inside the app (immediate)
- Open Meem
- Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account
- Check the confirmation box and type DELETE to confirm
Your account and associated data are deleted immediately. This runs a
secure server function that removes your login and cascades the deletion
through everything tied to your account (full list below). It cannot be
undone.
Option 2: Request deletion without the app
If you no longer have the app installed (or can't sign in), email
support@joinmeem.com from the email address associated with your
account, with the subject line "Delete my account." Include your
username if you remember it.
- We will verify the request is genuinely from the account holder before deleting anything (normally, sending the request from the account's registered email address is sufficient).
- We will complete verified deletion requests within 30 days and confirm by email once done.
What is deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Login credentials (email/phone and linked Google or Apple sign-in)
- Profile (username, display name, avatar, city/country)
- Posts, comments, Majlis discussions, and Moments (including stored photo files)
- Circle memberships, reactions, bookmarks, and poll votes
- Meems points ledger, redemption history, daily check-ins, and achievements
- Notifications, blocked-user list, reports you filed, and device push-notification tokens
What may be retained, and for how long
- Aggregated, anonymized research results: retained indefinitely. Poll results that have already been aggregated (e.g., "62% of respondents answered X") no longer reference your account and cannot be traced back to you once your account is deleted.
- Routine database backups: deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for a rolling window (up to approximately 90 days) before being overwritten in the normal backup rotation. Backups are not used to restore deleted accounts.
- Legal records: we may keep a minimal record of your deletion request itself (date and the email used) to demonstrate compliance, and any data we are legally required to retain.
Partial deletion
You can delete individual posts, comments, and Moments inside the app
at any time without deleting your whole account. There is currently no
way to delete your account while keeping your content, because all
content is tied to your account.
